Ingredients and Kitchen Supplies

Here’s what you need to make Instant Pot basmati rice:
- Basmati Rice – Seems like a no brainer here, but in case you are a little on the slow side, you will want to use basmati rice in order to make basmati rice. You can find boxes or bags of basmati rice in the rice aisle.
- Water – Plain tap water works, but you could also use filtered or spring water.
You will also need to have an Instant Pot and measuring cups so you get the measurements correct.
How to Make Instant Pot Basmati Rice
1. Add the water and rice to the Instant Pot.

Here’s one of the most crucial parts of making Instant Pot basmati rice: you need to add the rice and water to the inner pot of your Instant Pot.

The key is to keep the ratio 1 to 1.
We use 1 cup basmati rice with 1 cup water.
You can easily double or triple this if needed making sure to keep the ratio 1:1.
2. Cook the basmati rice.
Once you add the rice and water to the inner pot, place the lid on the Instant Pot and turn to lock into place.
Make sure the vent is set to “sealing” and then turn the pot to high pressure for 6 minutes.
When the Instant Pot finishes cooking, allow it to naturally release pressure for 10 minutes.
3. Fluff and serve.

After 10 minutes of natural release, turn the vent to “quick release” and allow any remaining steam/pressure to come out.
We often find that not much pressure is left after 10 minutes, so it will only take a second or two to fully release pressure, allowing you to carefully open the lid.
Use a fork to fluff and pull the rice away from the bottom and sides of the inner pot before serving.
Serving

Serve Instant Pot basmati rice with your favorite main dishes, like slow cooker chicken legs or jalapeno stuffed chicken.
You can also have it on its own as a snack, though you may want to season with some salt, pepper, or favorite sauces.
Basmati rice goes well with a lot of Asian inspired foods.
Storing
Basmati rice stores alright for a few days in the fridge.
You will want to put it in an airtight container to keep the moisture locked in.
You can also freeze rice in a freezer safe container. This makes it a great way to meal plan and have some ready made sides.
To reheat, you can pop it in the microwave for a few seconds to minutes.
Tips and Tricks
- You do not need to soak Instant Pot basmati rice. You can rinse it if you like, but you can even skip this step.
