Instant Pot Corn on the Cob

Instant Pot corn on the cob is exactly what it sounds like. Corn on the cob, cooked in the Instant Pot. It’s stupidly simple.

You’ve heard of corn on the cob. Now get ready for: Instant Pot corn on the cob.

It’s just like regular corn on the cob, but you get to whip out your fancy Instant Pot to make it.

It’s simple and easy and you don’t have to worry about “how long have I been boiling this corn for?” ever again!

Ingredients and Kitchen Supplies

Here’s what you need for Instant Pot corn on the cob:

  • Corn on the Cob – Yes. You need corn still attached to the cob to make corn on the cob. Oddly enough, you really shouldn’t substitute this for loose corn kernels. You can use frozen corn on the cob if you like, but otherwise stick with the fresh stuff, particularly when in season.
  • Water – Yes, you need water to make Instant Pot corn on the cob. You could use a broth if you want, like chicken or vegetable broth. These would give it extra flavor but may be a bit odd. If you try it that way, let us know how that ends up tasting.
  • Salt – You do not need to add salt. If you don’t add it, it leaves it up to the people you serve to add their own salt and seasoning, which may be a better way to go.

How to make Instant Pot Corn on the Cob

1. Cut the corn into pieces, this is your last resort.

If you have not already shucked your corn, shuck that corn hard.

Once you clean out all those god forsaken fibers, take a big old knife and cut that cob right in half.

While you can skip this step, most corn cobs are too big to fit into the Instant Pot inner pot, making cutting it in half important.

2. Dump and go.

Place the corn on the cob halves into your Instant Pot’s inner pot, layering as needed.

Pour in the water.

Add in the salt here if you like.

Set your Instant Pot to high pressure and to cook for 4 minutes.

Once the timer beeps, do a quick release of the pressure.

3. Remove and serve.

Carefully open the lid to the Instant Pot.

You could do this recklessly, we suppose, but you risk burning your hand and arm, so maybe use some caution.

Use tongs (or those manly hands of yours if you want some nice burns) to remove the corn from the Instant Pot.

Slather on some butter and seasonings if you like and serve the corn on the cob.

It does pair nicely with Instant Pot shredded chicken or air fryer hot dogs.

We just pick up warm corn on the cob by the ends, but you could get those fancy cob holder things.

You could use a knife to remove the kernnels if you like or don’t what your dentures coming.

Before serving, you can slather the corn with butter, salt, or seasonings.

You can serve Instant Pot corn on the cob with Italian sausage and peppers, barbecue chicken thighs, jalapenos stuffed burgers, or your favorite main dishes.

Storing

Either wrap left-overs up in cling-wrap or place in an air tight container.

They should stay fresh for abou 3 to 5 days.

If you freeze the corn, it should stay fresh for about 6 months.

Allow any frozen corn on the cob to thaw in the fridge over night.

To reheat, you can pop them in the microwave for a few seconds.

Tips and Tricks

  • Don’t worry if you can’t get all the little fibers out. It’s actually easier to remove them once they are done cooking anyway. When we don’t use the Instant Pot, we often just cook corn on the cob in the husk so it is much easier to shuck.
  • You can add as much corn as will fit inside the Instant Pot. You do not need to adjust the water, just add more corn.
  • Don’t sweat if you let it naturally release for a few minutes before getting it. It takes a lot to break down corn, so really it just delays when you can eat them. But unlike pasta, it shouldn’t turn to mush if you let to slowly release pressure. Just release it when you get a chance.

  • Carefully remove the lid and use tongs to remove the corn.
