Air fryer hot dogs require no skill.

None.

You can literally teach your 5 year old how to make them – it’s about as safe as a microwave using an air fryer. (don’t let your small child use an air fryer unsupervised, don’t be stupid, save a life)

What makes air fryer hot dogs so easy is that it is one of those set and forget meals that cooks in less than 5 minutes – no flipping required.

Here’s what you need for air fryer hot dogs:

  • Hot Dogs – You can use your favorite. We often get either Nathan’s or Sabrett, but you can get your favorite. Often all beef hot dogs tend to taste the best compared to pork or chicken, but if you like those off tasting kinds, go for it.
  • Buns – You can use whatever kind you like, such as potato, plain white, brioche, or just a lettuce wrap for a blast of health. We kid – nothing can possibly make hot dogs healthy.
  • Condiments – You can go all out or only add a little bit. Mustard, ketchup, and relish are popular choices. You could also add some homemade chili or canned chili for some chili dog action.

You need to whip out an air fryer to make air fryer hot dogs. We know this comes as a shock to most of you, so take as much time as you need.

How to Make Air Fryer Hot Dogs

1. Cook the hot dogs.

This sounds nuts – because it is!

To make air fryer hot dogs, place them into your air fryer basket, leaving just a little room so they do not touch.

Make sure to leave some space between each hot dog.

How many you can cook at a time will depend on how big your air fryer actually is, but you can probably fit about 8 or more.

Air fry them at 400 for 4 minutes.

If they do not look done to your liking, you can add another minute at the end.

Serving

Carefully remove the hot dogs from the air fryer and place them in your buns.

If you are making these for little kids, you may want to cut the hot dogs into little pieces to help prevent choking.

Go ahead, stick the hot dog in your mouth…

You can add whatever condiments you like. As you can see, we fully loaded ours with mustard and ketchup in a way that would make you swear something chaotic is going on in our minds at all times because it is.

If you do not know what hot dogs go with, well, we can’t really help you.

We kid, we kid! Try them with:

Or just shove those dogs down your throat like the number one contestant in a hot dog eating contest. That works too.

Storing

Seriously, these are freaking hot dogs.

Only make as much as you intend to serve and save the rest for later.

But if you do air fryer more hot dogs than you can eat, store them like you would any other overly processed meat, in a container in the fridge.

You can reheat them basically the same as you cooked them the first time, but you may want to adjust the time slightly to prevent burning or drying out.

About 3 to 4 minutes to reheat in the air fryer should be good.

  • Make sure to leave some room between each hot dog when cooking. This allows the air to flow nicely between them.
  • If your air fryer has a fancy preheat option, you can preheat the air fryer to 400 first. You may find they are done around 3 minutes if you preheat the air fryer first.
  • Use whatever toppings make you happy. As one person I over heard years ago said when asked what he wanted on his hot dog at a concession stand, “anything to cover up the taste of the hot dog.” Seriously though, Nathan’s and Sabrett make the best tasting hot dogs, so we’d go with either of those brands for a better overall hot dog experience.
